RESOLUTION OPPOSING WITHDRAWAL FROM THE PARIS AGREEMENT ON CLIMATE CHANGE
AND MEMORIALIZING THE TOWNSHIP'S COMMITMENT TO MINIMIZE ITS IMPACT ON THE
ENVIRONMENT AND BUILD A CLEAN AND HEALTHY COMMUNITY FOR CURRENT RESIDENTS
AND FUTURE GENERATIONS
WHEREAS, Cherry Hill Township Council, along with its Mayor, stands united with cities
and towns across the United States in condemning the reckless, irresponsible decision to
withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Accord ; and
WHEREAS, as leaders of Cherry Hill, we will remain steadfast in our commitment to
fight climate change and protect the health and well-being of Cherry Hill residents today
and for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, on June 1, 2017, the Township submitted its application for Sustainable
Jersey Silver Recertification, the state's highest level of municipal sustainability certification,
and an honor our Township has received for the past seven years; and
WHEREAS, Cherry Hill has long been considered a leader in building a greener, more
sustainable future among New Jersey municipalities; and.
WHEREAS, from the creation of one of New Jersey's first municipal sustainability
plans, to our robust recycling program, to our Mayor's Wellness Campaign, to our vast
network of parks and trails, to our pedestrian and bike master plan, to our purchase of
green products, to our use of solar energy on our municipal properties, to our support of
local businesses, we will continue to work to minimize our impact on the environment, and
create a more sustainable community for our citizens today, and for generations to come.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Township Council of the Township of Cherry
Hill, that we strongly oppose our nation's withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord and will
continue to work at the local level to advance our sustainability initiatives and minimize our
impact on the environment, and to build a clean, healthy community.
